Barroso's speech includes the following quote where he PRAISES A HUMAN TRAFFICKER: "Let me conclude with a very sincere word of appreciation for the great work of UPF and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, for their remarkable commitment to peace and reconciliation in the Korean Peninsula. I believe all those that are committed to peace and reconciliation, all those that recognize the imperative of hope, deserve our recognition and our admiration."

Abe was symbolic of all the corrupt institutions that one might hope to turn to when a family member falls victim to a predatory cult like the Moonies. I can understand his anger.
To fully understand the motive, you need to understand the structure of the organization, and how it is a financially exploitative machine. The Unification Church (Moonies) is a constellation of front groups, all working in harmony to funnel money, power, and influence to the Moon family.
These activities are all funded by the exploitation of Unification Church members, including Yamagami's mother. I explain it all in this video, plus I name-drop other many politicians, academics, and journalists who have all been corrupted by the Moonies. I don't condone violence, but I do understand the rage of Yamagami, and Abe was not innocent in all of this.
